Car Hire Denver International Airport

Passengers at Denver Airport can select their ideal rental car from eleven car rental companies. The companies available are Budget Car Rental, Avis, Alamo, Enterprise, E-Z Rent-A-Car, Thrifty Car Rental, Payless, Hertz, National Car Rental, Dollar Car Rental and Advantage Rent A Car.

The care hire service counters are located in the Jeppesen Terminal on level 5. All of the companies offer a free shuttle service to their facilities where the customer can collect their vehicle. The shuttles can be found outside level 5 at Island 4.

Downtown Denver is about a 35 minute drive. The main road that connects Denver to the airport is Pena Boulevard, which also leads to the I-70 interstate. Driving in Denver is similar to driving in other large cities. Traffic can be heavy in the city centre. Around the city centre there are a few main roads and these include East Colfax Avenue, the Martin Luther King Boulevard, West 6th Street and the Speer Boulevard. Driving your rental car in the countryside surrounding Denver can be a wonderful experience, especially with the famous Rocky Mountains and their magnificent views and scenery.

In Denver, driving is on the right-hand side of the road and speed limits should be obeyed to avoid harsh on-the-spot fines. In urban areas of Denver the speed limit is 30mph/48kph, on the open road it is 65mph/105kph and for the motorways or highways, 70mph/113kph.

Often Denver car hire companies offer a few options for refuelling the vehicle on it’s return. Customers can choose to refuel the vehicle themselves or allow the rental company to refuel for convenience or a time saving option. It is the cheaper option to refuel the vehicle yourself as rental companies often charge a slightly higher per-gallon charge than an ordinary gas station, and there may be a small premium added for this convenient service. Ensure that you have your receipt for refuelling available when returning the vehicle to show that you have filled up the tank. There is a full-service station on Peña Boulevard.

Even though most car hire companies have special procedures to quicken the process of returning the cars, allow plenty of time before your departure flight. The vehicle will need to be checked for any damages, and if any are found, you will be required to fill out a damage report. Rental cars should also be inspected by the rental agent and customer at the time of pick-up to ensure existing damages are recorded. Sufficient time should be allowed for travel back to Denver Airport by the car rental shuttle service.

The primary renter of the car is to be at least 21 years of age. A driver under the age of 25 may be seen as more of a risk by the rental company and incur extra ‘young driver’ fees. Younger renters may also not be allowed to rent vehicles such as convertibles, pick-up trucks, luxury cars, 15-passenger vans or sport utility vehicles.

Having your own rental car from Denver Airport is very convenient and with the many companies to choose from, you are sure to be able to find a suitable selection at a reasonable price. It is always advisable to book your rental car in advance.
